Pakistan overhauled a mediocre Australian total of 176 to take top spot in Pool A of the 2011 cricket World Cup, at the same time ending an unbeaten streak of 34 games by the Australians in World Cup competition. However, its victory did not come without some scares.
Four Wickets To Brett Lee Keeps Australia In Game:
A lionhearted performance from Brett Lee kept Australia in the game. He took the first four Pakistani wickets to fall, removing Hafeez in the third over of the innings, finding a leading edge and running to take a splendid caught and bowled. With the score on 45 he rapped Kamran Akmal on the back pad and the Pakistani wicket-keeper was forced to depart lbw after a referral. The video replay showed the ball clipping the leg-stump and ratified the on-field call. Akmal's 23 had come from 27 balls.
Lee was not being supported by his opening partners. While he was bowling tightly runs were steadily leaking from the other end. From his end Lee had conceded only eight runs from his first four overs while three overs from Shaun Tait and Mitchell Johnson had cost 24 runs from the other end. Tait was removed from the attack after an opening spell of two overs.
